There are many high altitude remote villages in Spiti valley that not only offer breathtaking sights, but are also famous for their monasteries, wildlife, culture and historical significance. Few to name around Kaza are:
- Tangyud Monastery – Just 4 km away from the KAZA, Tangyud Monestry or Sa-skya-gong-mig Gompa is a monestry which is of the shape of a fort built at the edge of a deep canyon. It is located in the Hikkim village which itself is famous for its highest post office in the world.
- Key Gompa – 14.6 km (33 minutes) away from Kaza is the most famous and biggest monestry of Spiti Valley – Key Gompa Monestry. It is located at the top of a hill with altitude over 4100 meters above sea level. It is the training centre of Lamas.
- Langza Village – Langza is a remote village nestled in the bowl shaped valley. It is famous for its fossils hunting and sighting of snow leapords. Just 15.9 km away from KAZA, it is not a sight to be missed.
- Kibber Village – At the elevation of 4270 mt above sea level, Kibber village is popular for its monastery and The Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary. A must visit place for wildlife lovers. It is just 18.9 km form Kaza.
- Gette Village – Gette village at the height of 4350 mt above sea level is the highest inhabited village in the world. The population includes only six families. It is situated in the high mountain ridges just 26.1 km away from Kaza.
- Pin Valley National Park – One of the most picturesque and the highest national parks in the world, the elevation of Pin Valley National park ranges from 3500 meters to more than 6000 meters from sea level. Covered mostly with snow, it is the natural habitat of Snow Leopard and Siberian Ibex. The nearest town to the park is Kaza.
- Losar Village – Located near the Indo Chinese border at an altitude of 4085 meters above sea level, Losar village becomes the extreme end of Spiti Valley and thus is even less populated and unexplored. Known for its peaceful and serene landscapes, Losar village is just 56 km away from Kaza.
- Dhankar Fort – ‘Dhan’ means cliff and ‘kar’ means fort. Therefore, the literal meaning of Dhankar is a fort on a cliff. Dhankar monestry and Fort is located in the Dhankar village at an altitude of 3894 meters from the sea level. It is situated on a high ridge at the confluence of Spiti and Pin rivers. Thus making the Fort the most popular for its breathtaking views. It is situated between Kaza and Tabo towns.
- Chandrataal – A paradise for trekkers and nature lovers, Chandratal “ the moon lake” is a crescent shaped high altitude lake nestled in snow covered mountains in the Spiti Valley at the altitude of 4250 meters above sea level. The bright blue/green watered lake originates from the nearby glacier ‘Samudri Tapu’ and becomes the origin of the Chandra river. The river is famous for its sweet water and is considered sacred by the localites. One can access it from Kaza by crossing Kunzum Pass.
- Numerous Trekking and Mountaineering expedition opportunities – Kaza provides exotic locations for amateur as well as difficult treks/expeditions that take the trekkers to unseen, unimaginable and unbelievable landscapes that can be seen only from the heights.
